Filthy Luker's Installation at Jindal Mansion

When inflatable green tentacles sprouted out of the fifth floor of the Jindal Mansion on Mumbai’s posh and busy Peddar Road, people had varying reactions. Some thought that aliens had finally decided to pay Earth a visit, while others thought the movie ‘Jurassic Park’ was being shot at the mansion. Little did people know that the green tentacles were part of UK-based artist Filthy Luker’s installation at the Jindal Mansion. Luker wanted to make this piece interactive and open to multiple interpretations.

Street artists Daku and Dia Mehta Bhupal collaborated to create a temporary installation spread across 9 advertising hoardings in key commuter-friendly parts of Hyderabad. The project sought to make an art-centric intervention to deal with the city’s ‘visual pollution’. Designed as an anti-consumerist wake up call, the installation was a commentary on the umpteen advertising hoardings that had taken over the city, altering its outlook.

All We Need Is Love

In December 2017, we returned to the iconic Jindal Mansion for another thought-provoking installation. Done in collaboration with one of the most celebrated artists and designers of the country - Manish Arora, the installation wove out a celebration of love. Titled “All We Need is Love” and situated amidst turbulent socioeconomic realities of the day, the installation aimed to encourage passers-by to stop and take notice of the beauty in the world, no matter how fleeting.

The Goan Giants Project

Taking inspiration from the larger-than-life cutout poster culture of Karnataka and neighbouring states, the project was conceptualised by designer and visual artist, Hanif Kureshi. Where he created a series of 7 portraits of local Konkani people - greeting citizens on their way from the airport to the city. These cut-outs traveled from the studios of famed Bangalore paste-up artist Deepak Sarast, and were assembled into imposing, 40-feet-tall portraits of regular Goan people. The aim was to celebrate regular Goan stories using a medium that was hitherto reserved for famous personalities.

Theory of Time by Daku

Indian street artist DAKU’s temporary installation for St+art Goa was set up in the middle of a street in Panjim. Creating a canopy that came to life as the sun went up on the streets of Panjim, the installation played with text and shadows to reinstate the notion of 'Time' being ephemeral. As a gameful interpretation of time, it explored the significant yet ambiguous role time plays in our lives.
